The way i see it is that we live in a new era and a new time. Back in the 1900's or whenever halloween was invented, it was a holiday for kids. To dress up and go beg for candy. Just like valentines day was for ONLY people who were in "love" and in a relationship, that became a children's holiday also, where kids give each other cards, candy, roses, etc. JUST like v-day included kids later on, Halloween included young adults and older peeps.

What am i supposed to dress up like a fully covered which or something that's actually scary ?... are you kidding me ? We're young and we go to Halloween parties. Even my parents, when they go to halloween parties, everyone there dresses somewhat sexy. The only time i went to a Halloween party that people did not dress "sexy" was this past weekend for like an hour to a party the doctor i work for was having. Keep in mind he's like 60. If they tried to dress "sexy" im pretty sure no one would show up.

Dressing up sexy, cute, etc. for Halloween doesn't mean you're slutty. It's just a time of the year where you get to not wear regular street clothes and do whatever you want. If a girl was slutty in the beginning, it wouldn't matter if she wore the most modest covered up costume on Halloween, people would still know her rep. Same goes for everyone else. In this culture, time and age, this is how things are done on Halloween for the most part. So all you people out there who think that girls dressing up in what they want on Halloween are "slutty" need to stop being so damn judgmental and live a little.

I agree that Halloween has turned into more of a holiday for adults, but honestly, I have much more fun with it now then when I was a kid. Trick-or-treating was fun, but it was also usually cold and we had to wear coats over our costumes. And as I got older and could stay out later, trick-or-treating was starting to die in popularity, for safety reasons or apathy or whatever, so less people gave out candy. I never saw the appeal of trick-or-treating at the mall. Halloween days at school were always more fun than usual school days, but I don't know. I get much more excited now than back then.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for the slutty Halloween stuff, I agree, the one night a year thing isn't going to change someone's reputation from the rest of the year. My friend and I went out this weekend as Wrath and Lust of the seven deadly sins (I was Lust), so you can imagine what I was wearing. ;)
Children and adult Halloween are so extremely different. So much so, that I cannot even compare the two. As a child, the most important part is the candy, hands down. Yes, getting dressed up and being with friends is fun, but trick-or-treating is clearly about getting as much candy for free as possible. As an adult however, candy goes to the back-burner and costumes/parties take the lead. Yes, many girl's dress slutty and yes, many of them are called called out on their skimpy outfits. However, the majority of Haloween celebrations are all in good fun and pretty much as open-minded as they get.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it necessarily makes one a slut to dress up sexy on Halloween. I just think the girl is aware of how much of her body she is showing and knows the kind of attention she will get from it. So if she wants to get that attention good for her, and if she wants to avoid that type of attention, good for her. The only reason people remark is because they don't like how easily guys will oggle and not pay attention to the more modestly clothed girls. Thats guys for ya!
