First of all, there aren't any rules to skating. It's the process of trial and error, and a usefulness of the right way to fall down. If you want to do an "ollie" you got to watch someone do it and try it for yourself (You are gonna bust your @$$ a few times! Just grow a F**K'n pair and get back up). Each skater, in his or her own way, is the artist and the board is the brush. There isn't a right way or wrong way to express yourself on your board. Often times the most creative expression calls for the local churches holy hand-rail, or the neighbors pool in his backyard when he empties it out to re-grout the tiles, and naively leaves it open for the weekend while he's out of town (ha, good times).
All through Jr. High and High School my friends and I were all searching for our own authentic tricks; tricks that showed our style. Our neighborhood roads crackled day in and day out; the Pig wheels against the asphalt; the vibration of the Krew trucks on our sleek, trim "blank" decks. To be a good skater you need artistic vision. There is no right way to position your sweaty Fallen shoes. You got to do it, and make it look good; make it look cool. That's the art of it.

I like your deep thinking :))
ReplyDeleteThank God people like that still exist. Never thought of skateboarding as "art" :)
