Heidi Marie Surprenant- my mother- is the sweetest woman on the face of the earth. I'm talking sweeter than the candy house from Hansel and Gretel sweet . Throughout my entire 19 years of life, She has been the perfect mom to me. I have never heard one yell or swear leave her lips. She has never discouraged me, but instead constantly encourages me to follow my heart and reach for my dreams.
Not only has she been amazing to my family and I, but to literally everyone. My mother always puts others before herself-even if they are perfect strangers. I specifically remember having one conversation with her when I was about 10. Confused about the cheap K-mart brand clothes she always wore, I asked "Mommy, why don't you ever wear nice clothing for yourself?" She replied in a gentle and soothing voice, "Jessica, when all of the children in Africa have sturdy roofs over their heads and enough food to eat, then I will spend my money on nice clothes."
If that conversation isn't dripping with enough saturated sweetness here are a few other extreme examples....
Whenever we go out in public and its time to park, she always chooses the spot farthest away. No matter what the weather is (including torrential down pour and snow) she always says... " Some people have more difficulty with their mobility so its only right that they should get the closer spots!"
Perhaps we show up to a movie or show a bit late... my mother would rather stand in back for the entire duration of the show than to briefly disturb someone by crawling over to an open seat!
While admittedly, her sweet nature can be a bit annoying at times, I would not have her any other way. My mom is the most selfless and caring human being I have ever met and I would do anything to have her beautiful outlook on life.
Wow, your mom sounds amazing.
ReplyDeleteNot enough can be said about great mothers. I too have a mom that I look up too and admire for many of the same reasons you do. Moms are awesome. (I'll drink to that.)
ReplyDeleteI already liked your mom because she fiddles, but now I like her even more. What a kind woman. I have a wall hanging that says "Kindness Matters" and it reminds me of the song by Jewel "These Hands" (I think that's the title). Anyway, it sounds like your mom lives by that motto. I wish our world had more people like her in it.
