Do you have a friend that howls in excitement when you walk in the house? Do you have a friend that licks their ass on your lap while you watch The Walking Dead? Do you have a friend that spins in circles when you prepare a meal for them?
I have a crazy little pug that smiles with saggy jowls every time I call her name. She keeps me company when I've had a bad day. Her dark wrinkles and floppy ears are enough to cheer me up. She smells like dirt but never looks dirty. She snores while she's awake. She snores while she's asleep. She loves to be chased and battered around; the most playful pug I've ever met.
It's amazing to me how far man has come through time to have domesticated dogs so well that they are better friends and companions than any other animal. Pugs are thought to have been first bred in China and then later became popular in Western Europe, where kings and nobleman would take great pride in owning the breed.
Pugs have had some fame on the silver screen in movies such as The Adventures of Milo and Otis, Disney's Pocahontus, and The Men In Black just to name a few. Their funny characteristics and buoyant personality are entertaining on the eyes, making for easy laughs and soft sudden snickers.

Growing up with dogs my whole life I have experienced different breeds and personalities, and there isn't any dog I've owned that has not treated me with loyalty, forgiveness, unconditional love and supreme kindness. Dogs are sweet. What would I do without them?
Awww! This post makes me so happy! :-) I get a real sense from your writing that she is full of energy and I imagine her spinning around every time you talk to her. Right now my own little bucket of energy is barking until he tips over every time a trick-or-treater rings the bell. Couldn't live without them. :)
ReplyDeleteI always owned cats because they were easier to get approved for when renting. When an opportunity came up for us to get a dog I went for it. Unfortunately we had to give the cats to a friend, and I do miss them, but I LOVE my dogs! They are so affectionate and playful. They are so excited when we get home and love to cuddle. Cats meow at you for food and then rum away. Look up Tim Hawkins Dancing, American Idol, and Animals. He does a great bit about dogs and cats.
ReplyDeleteYour dog sounds like such a sweet-heart. My best friend back home is obsessed with pugs and constantly talks about them so the bouyant personality is no surprise to me. Reading this post made me miss my puppy tremendously. I have a beautiful and super loving golden retriever named Oackly. Your description of dogs fits like a glove. "loyalty, forgiveness, unconditional love and supreme kindness" enough said.
ReplyDeleteI love dogs! My family used to breed so I have had a lot of dogs in my life. Right now my dog lives with my parents, because it is much easier to rent with cats than dogs, and he doesn't do very well without the rest of his pack.
