We don't need no education

I am so looking forward to this break.  I'm looking forward to a few weeks of having more than 4 hours to sleep every night.  Sometimes, this semester in particular, I am convinced that school isn't designed to teach you anything but rather to completely break you.  But luckily we have a few weeks in between each semester to forget how miserable we are.  For a few golden weeks I will be able to leave the house on the weekend and see light that isn't reflected off the shiny pages of textbooks.  A short glorious vacation to put my waterproof hiking boots to the test.  Time to say yes when friends ask "Hey -Insert Ridiculous Nickname My Friends Gave Me- lets go see a movie/get some coffee/hop on a train somewhere."  A reprieve to seriously ponder what a load of horseshit most of academia is and consider training for a job that really matters, like a welder, or a prison guard.  I had a job in a machine shop and I gave it up for this?  What was I thinking?  Can you still be a cowboy?  I could do cowboy.  Why doesn't the university have cowboy training programs?

*Sigh*

Only 11 more days.

  1. Haha your posts always crack me up. I'd come be a cowboy with you. I've only gotten to ride a horse a few times, but I've always thought they were beautiful creatures. I appreciate my education, but I feel like school and the "real world" are two vastly different things and that some classes are only helpful if you're planning to have a career in academia. Which some people might be, but I doubt most are. On the other hand, it drives me crazy how many people have spelling issues or use the wrong words like to and too, or except and accept.

  2. "I'd come be a cowboy with you." is one of the sweetest things anyone has ever said to me. LOL! My great-grandfather was a rancher and he lived to be 96. So maybe there is something to that life.

School has its uses. I am hoping that my degree will pay off so that I can pay off all the debt. I used to have high hopes. But now I just want a job that pays decent and has flexible hours so I can spend the rest of my time doing things I *want* to do. Essentially I want to fund a life of reading, knitting, hiking, painting, chasing after the pets, being chased by my husband ::wink:: and watching movies until it is the next day.
