In some odd very few weeks, I will debark on the adventure of a lifetime- A Semester at Sea!! The ship takes off January 9th in Mexico, to which we will proceed to travel the whole world- literally! We will hit countries such as China, Japan, Singapore, Burma, Vietnam, South Africa, Mauritius, Ghana, and more! I am more than excited but needless to say I am scared shitless.

The boys I live with are what I like to call assholes and keep joking I am going to get "taken." They say I am too sweet and will get picked up easily and then sold into the sex trade. THANKS GUYS, don't be too sweet!!!! As much as I tell them to fuck off and roll my eyes with a smile, I really am actually pretty scared about that. I received a warning for some of the countries saying "take caution if you are a woman, especially if you are fair skinned, blonde, and light eyed." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? The email basically should have said Lindsey Holbrook, you're fucked. That would have been more comforting. On top of all this I have to carry around iodine tablets so I don't poison my self (but of course not too many tablets or I'll get diarrhea) and make sure I don't catch yellow fever or malaria.

I guess I will just get my appropriate shots and hope for the best! This trip will be amazing and life changing, but if I don't come back by the end of April, somebody please call Liam Neeson to find me.
Wow! This definitely sounds like the adventure of a lifetime. I have never been outside of the Continental United States, so even the idea of traveling the world is exhilerating and overwhelming. I wouldn't worry too much. As long as you take the proper precautions, use the buddy system, and have a bit of common sense, you will be just fine. You will have to keep in touch so we can hear about all of the amazing things you experience!
ReplyDeleteOH MY LORD! how exciting!!!!!! how and WHERE do you sign up for such a thing?! thats soooo cool! & don't worry, think of it this way, any place you go has danger, just make sure you're not too friendly and aren't alone :) People get scared going to Europe sometimes because of the "taken" movie, but it's just like any other place, filled with great love, people, food, bad people, etc.
ReplyDeleteWhat will you be doing on this trip? Take a suitcase full of condoms. My understanding is that the staff on cruise ships always run out of condoms and many go home with avoidable STDs. Even if you don't intend to do anything with anyone you might be able to share your supply and save a friend from a lifetime of regret.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the staying in groups. People who do that sort of thing want an easy mark. Just don't make it easy. Be with friends, stay alert and when all else fails, hiss. If someone is giving you the look-over, stare them straight in the eye, pretend you are a giant, angry house cat that intends to eat their giblets and HISS! You can even lift up your paw, I mean hand, like it has claws and swipe at them. It sort of moves you up into that "crazy chick" classification.
