Beyond Thrifty

I own a wedding dress.

I am nineteen years old and oh, so very single, yet I still own a wedding dress.

I am not using it as a symbol of good fortune or any magic voodoo to  help me get married in the near future...

I am simply cheap.

A few months ago my mom called me from a local Good Will and excitedly described her amazing find. Hanging out in the open between a pair of wholly blue jeans and a plaid lumberjack shirt hung a white wonder. A slimming silhouette, a beaded beauty, a sexy strap... a wedding dress.

However, my mom lacks a great deal of fashion sense, so it wasn't her description that signed the deal, it was the price. Originally a $3,000 David's Bridal selection, now in mint condition for $85. For those of you who aren't the best at simple math that is a saving of $2,915.... or nearly TWELVE MILLION 25 CENT GUMBALLS!
No matter how distant in the future marriage is for me, this dress was here and now. Take it or leave it. Without a second blink I said "snatch it up", because who knows... maybe someday I will strut my stuff for the love of my life in a Wedding dress from Good Will. I won't be ashamed or embarrassed, only a little less poor than otherwise. :)

  1. As an avid thrift shop hunter this is so awesome. You made the thrift-find of a century!! Its a gorgeous dress, who cares that it came second hand!

I like how there is a movement to rename used things. It isn't second-hand its "pre-loved". It isn't used its "pre-owned". Your dress has a memory and a spirit that something new would not. Its the reason why we pass down such items from mother to daughter. You get the sentiment and the dress.

P.S. I recommend changing million to thousand. Still doesn't detract for the awesomeitude. :)

  2. This is amazing! I wish I would have some thing like that, it would also be good motivation to stay that size so you can fit in it, haha!

but yes, i agree with the girls above, suuuuper sweet find and i think it's cute that us girls don't mind keeping a wedding dress in our closets :)) just don't tell guys that on dates haha it might creep them out.

  4. I bought my dress for $89 so I can relate. It was new but on sale. The only problem I see with this situation is that if you don't get married for quite a while the dress might go terribly out of style. We never think something we love will, but see Princess Di's dress that everyone thought was AMAZING and you will know what I mean.
